Bingo. AFAIK, Custom Shaders don't work in OB engine. As in, at all. That means no thermals, no stealth, and no cyberspace bloom. Sounds fun right? ;) Hence one of the biggest reasons why we're still on ep1

how do they stealth spys in TF2 then?

The specific issue, as far as I've read, is that custom shaders don't compile under the OB SDK, So this is not an engine bug, it's an SDK bug. Note that this is just what I read while googling about the issue a while back, but the fact that no other OB mod has custom shaders reinforces this. Since I'm not one of the coders for Dys I'm in no position to say here nor there technically, I'm just letting you know the situation as I understand it.

Valve have given you access to Steamworks, I'd imagine that someone there would be willing to help. I mean, wouldn't they be interested in mods running on the newest version of Source?

Auto updating through Steam being referred to as a part of Steamworks confuse me, as that feature was available for years before Steamworks was announced and all games released on Steam update through Steam, regardless of whether they have Steamworks in them.

but you can't update mods since they are 3rd party owned/managed.
steamworks integration makes it possible now.

Honestly, that makes sense..
You'd think if you pointed out these facts to Valve, they'd probably agree and at least add it to their to-do list.
Either that or they already know about it, but have no idea wtf is wrong or how to fix it. :P

Either way, if you're on a short-list like Steamworks, chances are you have at least a "wee" bit of contact with the devs on that end.

I'm sure Dystopia isn't the only mod out there with these issues..

As Steam and Source have a lot of issues, many known for many years, i guess they already have it on a list (if they use one, and do not just forget about it), but don't know how to fix it.. or they just don't care, as it works fine for them.

Let's just hope they help the devs out with this one then.

I just had a random thought: Does Steamworks also give access to Steam Cloud? If yes, custom load outs would be an excellent thing to store with it.

Steamworks does give access to Cloud, it just hasn't been implemented yet. It's part of the Steamworks suite.

The answer to that is "When it's done"
The real question is "When will it be done?" which is something that even a fair amount of mind reading will struggle to reveal. However I believe there is a "date that the devs have in mind" for the release...
*hopes wild speculation will ensue*

And even after it's done, it will still take some extra time for it to appear. At the Eternal Silence website, they say that they've given their files to Valve, but as we can see, that has yet to go live on Steam.

I think a bunch of mods will be released together, just like the first "wave" of mods on steam.
from then on it's autoupdate time :)
but we'll see, I don't know for sure either.

I know it's blasphemy, but I think Valve should delay the release of the second mod wave until after the christmas season (or perhaps right after new year).

The reason being that a lot of gamers are, obviously, going to be getting games for christmas. We need to wait until people are a little tried of playing the games they receive (or at least reaching the point where they're open to trying another game, I know when I get a good game I play it exclusively for a bit), then release it during a lull (like not during any big TF2/L4D updates).

Just my 2 cents, I have my flame-proof spy-suit at the ready. ;)

Edit: Off-topic, how I turn smiles back on plox? And how did I accidently turn them off? (or perhaps it's the board itself?)

user control panel -> board preferences -> edit display options.
if it then still doesn't work I suspect it's your browser (maybe some blocker/addon)

Smileys don't work in the news forum for everyone but Team Dystopia. If you take a look at this post, and the following quote of a Team member..

Well, then it works for playtesters too, but i didn't see any smiley here from a normal player or supporter, and when i quote etc. they get reduced to plain text, too.

It works for playtesters and devs, no matter wether it worked in the quoted post or not or if they post a new one. And it doesn't work for the rest, as in supporters and normal player, no matter what they do.

(img)(/img)" is disabled, too. And flash aswell. Everything visual is disabled. (I can not even write it with the [], so i had to use () )

I wonder why? It's not like we would spam them more then devs/playtesters, and we still have smileys here, so it's not even "clean". And there is no reason to allow it for playtesters, they have to test the game, not smileys ;)
