give em limited access

Postby anton_es » Tue Feb 26, 2008 10:26 am

he, what I always wanted to ask if possible is a "limited" acess to the RC if there will be supporter testing (or not).
Meaning additonal to supporters (or instead of) we give out "limited" access, meaning it's bound to STEAM_ID and server for non-supporters who feel they could REALLY contribute to playtesting/whoring the last drops of blood out of the maps. there the supreme tactics/skills of Kaya (or whoever) could be used.
by limited I mean that if they don't provide feedback each day on the forum, spend min 2h/day on a dys RC1 server and turn up at a special TESTERS meet UEBERPROS-playtest they get kicked. local server is deactivated of course.

anyone who abuses this or leaks it out, get's an own "asshole" icon on the scoreboard and hardcoded negative points and random callvote bans every map.

If you give the pro clans pre-release play time they'll have a dev-granted advantage over normal clans. Also pro players aren't always great testers 'cause if the pressure's high enough they might suggest suggestions (not necessarily deliberately) that benefit themselves instead of good gameplay.

But yeah, I want beta access too, but it's a 99.9billion% chance it's not going to happen without being a tester.

I don't see what the fuss is about in regards to testers sucking. If the issue is that supporters should be allowed too, I must say I'm sceptical as 95% of the supporters are shit too. Best thing would be to open it to the non-supporters and non-testers since that's where the people with real skills are.

I think everyone is going to be able to test it plenty once it's released.. I'm sure if there are any major problems that the testers don't catch the public will catch it and it can be fixed in a later release.

Hey, you guys are kind of missing some major key points here.

1. Testers are supposed to be of varying degrees of skill. People like joker, Taara, DawnDus, Whiteknight and I are on the team, but there are also more casual players. There's a reason for that. It's because if we test only with uber-skilled players we're only balancing the map for those people, not for regular pub play. However, just because the test team consists of people with a variety of skill does not mean that we didn't test the new airlock thoroughly.

It also happens to be the case that it's not up to the test team what gets done with the airlock. It's Termi's map, and he does what he wants with it. End of story. The testers, like everyone else, only give feedback. Our general consensus was that this airlock is a great improvement on the previous version in terms of gameplay. I would like also to add that we did not design the airlock, and that we are not responsible for whatever changes to the airlock are made. That's what Termi does. We just tell him what we think. We think this is better, and that's what we told him. It's an airlock, and although I haven't asked him myself, its pretty reasonable to think that it's intended to be a chokepoint. It's just a more fun chokepoint now =)

If you somehow don't think it'll be better, please have the consideration to reserve your criticism until you've actually played the new version of Vaccine, instead of going around claiming that the testers aren't doing their jobs. Frankly, we're not getting paid to do this, and we find people saying that we're not doing a good job without anything solid to base that on to be a bit rude.

2. The whole thing with having clans test has been tried, and although I can't really say anything about it since I wasn't around back then, it didn't work out that well from what I understand.

3. Anton, that's the kind of thing you shouldn't be suggesting. Please keep in mind that you, like me, are not a Dev. Laguana is the man in charge. Go talk to him if you think something could be done better, don't post it here.

You're right! O.o

Now if only we could make 2 wheeled vehicles in source. -.-
Tired of that twig we call a katana?
Get the new longtana and no longer be confused when a katana hits you from a meter away.

I figure you could make two wheeled vehicles, but you'd just have to make the wheels wider than they would be normally to keep the balance. Maybe kick a wide rear tire while keeping a normal sized front.

most of the supporters would have seen it from about mid september last year. so it's not entirely new as such for some people.

OOOHH NICE, but I'm wondering, with all the updates coming along will there be a class update with wepons or things of that matter. Or is everything strictly being worked on for the maps?

Mortorcycle?

Hvent played in a while.

I'm sure it's been mentioned in the news forum in the updates and in the podcast about work on weapons, but no new weapons or classes. If you have a read around you will find your answers.

Podcast? What podcast?! I never saw a link to a podcast in this thread or in the Developer Blog thread. I want a podcast!
